Châteauneuf-de-Vernoux is a French municipality with 249 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Ardèche, in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
The municipality extends on the Plateau de Vernoux , a plateau in the center of the department and borders among other things on the neighboring municipalities Vernoux-en-Vivarais and Boffres . The nearest major city is Guilherand-Granges , 18 kilometers northeast.
history
The village of Châteauneuf was originally under the feudal rule of two families, the Tournon and the Barjac de Pierregourde. In the 17th century, the municipality then came into the possession of the lord of Entrevaux , René Bénéfice. During the French Revolution , the city carried the toponym Montfélix.

Culture and sights
Châteauneuf is rich in buildings steeped in history. It houses, among other things, a fortified castle and the castle of Périer. Furthermore, the ruins of another feudal castle with an angular keep can be visited, which dominate the place over a large area. There is also an orientation board here.
The Saint-Félix church, built in 1672, stands near a classical chapel from the 16th century. In addition, a small temple was built in 1861 on the remains of a 17th century complex.
