history

Early history

Archaeological finds indicate that the Eberbach valley was settled in the Neolithic and Roman times . The Eberstadt settlement was first mentioned as the property of the Oberstenfeld choir monastery in a document from Pope Innocent IV from 1247 ; the district of Holz, however, already around 1100. The district of Lennach was mentioned for the first time in 1282, the Buchhorn is even more recent.

Eberstadt was sold in two halves to Kurpfalz in 1412 and 1450 by its previous owners, the Lords of Weinsberg , and in 1504 came to Württemberg together with Weinsberg . During the Thirty Years' War , the population of Eberstadt fell to a third from 1629 to 1651, from 620 to 210 inhabitants now. The town only recovered slowly from the consequences of this war during the 18th century.

20th century

Until the beginning of the First World War Eberstadt had 760 inhabitants. After the dissolution of the Oberamt Weinsberg , to which Eberstadt had belonged since it was founded in 1755, the place was assigned to the Oberamt and later the district of Heilbronn in 1926 . After the Second World War , businesses gradually settled in; agriculture remains important to this day. The location attracted international attention through the Eberstadt high jump meeting organized from 1979 to 2018 .

Religions

In Eberstadt there is a Protestant parish for the main town and the district of Holz . It belongs to the Weinsberg-Neuenstadt church district of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . Until 1931, Holz was an independent branch parish, which, together with the mother parish of Eberstadt, formed the entire parish of Eberstadt, which has since been extinct.

The Catholic Church Community of Weinsberg is responsible for the Catholic Christians in the community. Together with the Catholics from Holz and Gellmersbach, they have their own church building, the Church of Maria, Queen of Peace, built in Eberstadt in 1970 .

Incorporations

On January 1, 1971, the community of Holz was incorporated into Eberstadt.

badges and flags

The blazon of the Eberstadt coat of arms reads: In a divided shield above in black a growing golden boar, below in gold a lying black deer pole. The flag of the municipality is yellow and black.

The coat of arms is first proven in 1628, carved in stone on the east side of the Eberstadt church tower. The boar symbolizes the place name as a talking coat of arms figure , the stag pole the affiliation to Württemberg . It prevailed against other variants that only showed half a boar ( local well from 1784, local flags 18th / 19th century, municipal seal from 1903) or whole boar (hunting flag from the beginning of the 19th century) without the deer pole. The colors of the coat of arms were determined by the Württemberg archives in 1938. The coat of arms and flag were awarded to the community on March 25, 1963 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior.

Buildings

Ulrich Church

Particularly worth seeing is the Evangelical Ulrichskirche (wrongly called Lukaskirche until 1964), which was first mentioned in 1247 and in its current existence as a high Gothic choir tower church with ribbed vaults in the choir dates back to 1477. The ship was extended in 1586 and renovated in 1892 and by architect Heinz Klatte in 1964/65. As early as 1953, after war damage by architect Hannes Mayer, the dilapidated sacristy was rebuilt in a smaller form, the choir renovated and its three windows provided with colored glazing.

Together with the town hall, the Ulrichskirche represents an attractive ensemble in the center of the village, which is joined by the baroque rectory from 1773 and the old school from 1880 in the immediate vicinity .

The place is rich in historical half-timbered buildings, including a building formerly belonging to the Lichtenstern Monastery in Klostergasse, which is dated on the portal to 1617, as well as the former office of the Weinsberg clerical administration in Hauptstraße 54, which is popularly known as barracks because of its size was built in 1404. "This is where the goods used to be administered and the tithe was collected for the respective ecclesiastical rule." In the village there is also a baroque fountain from 1784 with a richly decorated metal well box and the modern boar fountain in front of the old wine press , which was converted into a supermarket.

The Riekersche Mühle from 1791 and the sheep house , a half-timbered building from 1804 that was also used as a farren stable at times, can be found just outside the town center .

Buchhorn

The street hamlet Buchhorn has a historical ensemble of buildings in the center of the village, as well as a bakery from 1888 on the stately village linden tree with an oak fountain renovated in 1992.

Wooden

In the district of Holz there is the Johanneskirche , of which only the choir tower has been preserved. The choir was demolished from the Romanesque church in the 19th century. Relics of St. John, the Apostle Bartholomew and St. Stephen as well as the year 1208 were found in the altar. Instead of the demolished church, a schoolhouse was added in 1842, which was replaced in 1978/79 by a municipal multi-purpose house for events (including church services).

Lennach

In Lennach there is the old town hall , an old wine press, a historic fountain and a bakery.

Nature reserve

The nature reserve Wildenberg (No. 1.187) was established on October 16, 1992 on the western part of the Wildenberg between Weinsberg-Grantschen and Eberstadt, directly south of the A 81. Eberstadt's share is 47.8 hectares and Weinsberg's 1.6 hectares. Due to several geological outcrops, the protected area is of particular geological importance as an insight into the history of the reed sandstone . The whole nature reserve and then a small area, a total of 57.5 hectares, was also already on 2 September 1991 as Schonwald reported (no. 301) with the aim to preserve the natural Laubholzbestockung and maintain.

Regular events

The Eberstädter Markt takes place annually (in the first week of September) .

Economy and Infrastructure

Established businesses

Eberstadt's largest employer with around 110 employees (as of 2008) is Hirschmann Laborgeräte GmbH & Co. KG , which has been based in the community for over 40 years and sells laboratory glassware, measuring instruments and laboratory supplies.

Westiform visuelle Kommunikation GmbH, formerly Hoerner GmbH & Co. KG, was also important for Eberstadt . The company, founded in 1932, which in 1979 still employed around 550 people, was taken over in autumn 2002 after economic difficulties by the Swiss competitor Westiform AG, which gave it its name in October 2004. Around 60 employees (as of 2009) produced illuminated advertising (illuminated letters, large and individual systems, special fluorescent tubes, etc.) at the Eberstadt location, making the Westiforms branch in Eberstadt still the second largest employer in the community. In 2010, however, Westiform stopped production at the Eberstadt site, and at the end of 2011 the company moved with the remaining 35 employees who deal with sales and service to Schwabbach , a part of the neighboring municipality of Bretzfeld in Eberstadt.

traffic

Eberstadt is close to the Weinsberg motorway junction. The Weinsberg / Ellhofen exit on the A 81 is about 6 km, the Bretzfeld exit on the A 6 about 7 km away. The next train station is in Weinsberg on the Crailsheim – Heilbronn railway line .

Supply and disposal

The district of Heilbronn operates one of its two landfill sites in Eberstadt, which was responsible for the eastern half of the district. The landfill is located at the end of a small northern side valley of the Eberbach valley. The landfill in Schwaigern- Stetten was responsible for the western district . Since June 1, 2005, no new waste has been dumped, instead a collection point for household and small business waste has been set up at the dump. The garbage is then brought to Heilbronn for further treatment.

Weingärtnergenossenschaft Eberstadt eG

Viticulture

Most of the Eberstadt wine growers are part of the Weingärtnergenossenschaft Eberstadt eG, founded in 1923, which merged with three other companies in 2011 to form a new winegrowers' cooperative called Winzer vom Weinsberger Tal , based in Löwenstein and with branches in Eberstadt, Eschenau and Willsbach . There are also two self-marketing wineries. The locations in the village belong partly to the large Staufenberg site and partly to the large Salzberg site , both in the Württemberg lowlands of the Württemberg wine-growing region .

The daily newspaper Heilbronner Voice reports on the events in Eberstadt in its edition for the Weinsberger Tal (WT). The official newsletter Eberstädter Nachrichten has been published weekly since January 9, 1960.
