German table tennis championship 1960
The 28th national German table tennis championship took place on January 23rd and 24th, 1960 in Essen in the Grugahalle .
Conny Freundorfer became German champion in men's singles for the eighth time in a row and thus further expanded his title record. In the final he defeated Anton Breumair 3-1. In the women's singles, 19-year-old Inge Müser won the title for the first time by beating the surprisingly strong Ilse Lantermann in the final . This makes Inge Müser the youngest German champion to date (1960) after the Second World War . In addition, together with 19-year-old Jutta Kruse , she defended last year's title in women's doubles. The pair did not lose a single set in this tournament. Hans Wilhelm Gäb / Horst Langer became German champions in doubles for the second time since 1958 . Dieter Michalek / Hannelore Schlaf won the mixed competition ahead of Conny Freundorfer / Jutta Kruse.
For the first time, Eberhard Schöler and Martin Ness took part in a DM, with Ness surprising by penetrating into the singles semi-finals and the doubles final. Last year's semi-finalist Günter Matthias was missing because of an exam.
All games were played in the best-of-five mode (three sets of wins).
