Dmitri Alexandrovich Bashkirov

Dmitri Alexandrowitsch Baschkirov ( Russian Дмитрий Александрович Башкиров , scientific transliteration Dmitrij Aleksandrovič Baškirov ; born November 1, 1931 in Tbilisi ) is a Russian pianist .

Life

Bashkirov studied in Tbilisi with Anastassija Wirsaladze (grandmother of Elisso Wirsaladze ) and with Alexander Goldenweiser at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1955 he won first prize at the Marguerite Long piano competition in Paris . As early as 1957, Bashkirov devoted himself increasingly to teaching and became a professor at the Moscow Conservatory. From 1980 the Soviet government banned him from appearing abroad, which Mikhail Gorbachev lifted in 1988. In 1991 he moved to the newly founded Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain, as head of the piano department. His students from Moscow and Madrid include Dmitri Alexejew , Boris Bloch , Nikolai Demidenko, Kirill Gerstein , Jonathan Gilad , Stanislav Ioudenitch, David Kadouch , Eldar Nebolsin, Peter Rösel and Arcadi Volodos .

Bashkirow recorded for Melodija , EMI and Erato .

Bashkirow supports young Russian musicians and is a member of the board of trustees of the International Rotary Music Competition in Moscow.

Baschkirow's daughter Jelena Baschkirowa , also a pianist and student of Baschkirow, has been Daniel Barenboim's second wife since 1988 .
