Betrayed and sold is a German television film by Johannes Grieser from 2001. It is the 20th episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.

action

Chief Detective Otto Garber and his colleague Verena Berthold are investigating Robert Tischer, a criminal and fence known to the police. A young police colleague is killed during a nightly operation against a gang of thieves who work for him. Two of the men were arrested and the investigators learned that the organization was abusing children for their raids. The street children, mostly from Eastern Europe, are made docile with blows and then trained to steal. Prosecutor Schuster has so far not been able to find any evidence against Robert Tischer and is hoping for Mirko, a boy from the ranks of the “Klaukinder”, whom the police have just caught stealing and who is going to be placed in a home after the identification service.

Due to Georg Scholz's sports accident, Reddemann's team is reinforced by their young colleague Markus Menz. The officers work closely with public prosecutor Schuster and are supposed to observe Mirko, since Schuster assumes that the boy will run away immediately to return to his group. But the plan doesn't work because the boy tricks his guards. So the investigators are back at the beginning and have no clue about the murderer of their colleague.

For Robert Tischer, "the plaster" is gradually getting too hot and he sells the children to a dealer. Since he fears that Mirko had betrayed something to the police when he was arrested, he demands that his "supervisor" Bogdan Rulyakov kill the boy. But he likes the child and lets Mirko go. However, this falls back into the police's hands very quickly, which is why Tischer sends Rulyakov to fix the problem. His first attempt to bring the boy back fails and so he kidnaps Otto's daughter Anne, who is visiting her father for some time.

Unexpectedly, the public prosecutor is found murdered, which is why Reddemann wants to force the investigation. As it soon turns out, it was not Tischer who shot the prosecutor, but his girlfriend. She was an informant and wanted Schuster to help her with a problem. When he refused, she wanted to shoot herself out of desperation and when he snatched the gun from her, a shot had been fired.

Otto receives a call from Rulyakov that he will only get his daughter back if he delivers Mirko to him. Meanwhile, he tells Verena and Otto that Tischer shot the policewoman and that he saw it. In search of Tischer and Rulyakov, the investigators find Anna's hiding place and free her. Tischer flees and falls into the depths in an old factory. Rulyakov can also be arrested.

"[...] An exciting highlight of the series: The permanent staff works great, only a few amateurish supporting actors are annoying."
