Golden Camera 2019

The 2019 Golden Camera award ceremony took place on March 30, 2019 on the grounds of the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin . For the third time in a row, Steven Gätjen took over the moderation, for the first time together with Jeannine Michaelsen . The ceremony was live on prime time in the ZDF broadcast.

The nominations for the public vote were announced on February 7, 2019. Until March 1, 2019, the audience could vote for their favorites in the “Most Popular Home Series” category on the Golden Camera website. The vote then resulted in four nominations, among which the television viewers chose the winner via SMS and telephone voting.

The broadcast of the 2019 awards ceremony achieved the worst audience rate since the gala began. The market share was 8.9%, the show fell below 10% for the first time. While there were 3.14 million viewers in 2018, there were only 2.36 million in 2019. In seven years the show lost 55% of its viewers.

It was criticized in social media that shortly after the speech by climate activist Greta Thunberg, a sport utility vehicle (a T-Cross from mobility sponsor Volkswagen) was awarded to the best young actress.
