Laußnitz ( Upper Sorbian Łužnica ) is a municipality in the district of Bautzen , Saxony ( Germany ). She is a member of the Koenigsbrück administrative community.

The place name comes - like " Lausitz " - from the Sorbian word łuh or ług , which describes a swampy, water-rich area.

Geography and traffic

The community is located in the predominantly wooded Laußnitzer Heide west of Upper Lusatia, whose historical border to Meissen areas is marked here by the Pulsnitz running east of the town near Königsbrück . It is located about 2.5 km southwest of Königsbrück and about 25 km northeast of the state capital Dresden . The A4 runs south and the A 13 west of the municipality. The A 4 can be reached via the Ottendorf-Okrilla junction (approx. 10 km) and the A 13 via the Thiendorf junction (approx. 14 km). In Laußnitz the B 98 ends at the B 97 .

The station on the Dresden-Klotzsche-Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf railway is served hourly by regional trains on the Dresden-Neustadt - Königsbrück route.
