HB art guide

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HB-Kunstführer was the name of a series of art guides published by HB-Vertriebs- und Verlagsgesellschaft Hamburg from 1983. The booklets were distributed by the Stuttgart-based Pegasus Buch- und Zeitschriften Vertriebsgesellschaft.

The format of the HB art guides was based on the HB picture atlases published by the same publisher from 1977 onwards and had a dark blue cover . They assumed a hybrid position between magazine and art travel guide. The most important buildings of the respective region or artistic landscape were presented on almost 100 pages. Initially, the focus was on German cities and landscapes, later also places and regions from other European countries (e.g. Paris, Tuscany, Florence, Provence) were added. All booklets were provided with numerous color photos, city maps and an overview map. The travelogues were supplemented by a special chapter about famous artists or about the buildings or forms typical for the respective region.

The name of the series, like that of the publisher, is based on the name of the well-known cigarette brand HB . The brand's logo, a red triangle with a yellow background with the initials HB, can be seen on the cover of the magazine.

In 1997 the series, which was mainly sold through the newsagents (at kiosks and in train station bookstores ), was discontinued. A total of 65 issues were published.
