Hirschfeld village church

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1241. Until 1922, Hirschfeld was divided into a Saxon-Altenburg and a Russian part.

Hirschfeld (Altenburg part)

Hirschfeld (Altenburg part) was located in the extreme southwest of the Wettin district of Altenburg , which from the 16th century onwards was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg.

After the administrative reform in the Duchy, Hirschfeld (Altenburg part) belonged to the Eastern District (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg District Office (from 1900). Hirschfeld (Altenburg part) belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg from 1918 .

Hirschfeld (Russian part)

Hirschfeld (Reussian part) was in the northeast of the Gera district of the Gera lordship , which belonged to the younger line of the Reuss family. With the extinction of the Gera dynasty in 1802, the former rule of Gera was administered jointly by the three remaining ruling (sovereign) branches of the younger line Schleiz , Lobenstein and Ebersdorf until October 1, 1848.

With the unification of the entire territories of the younger line and the subsequent establishment of the Principality of Reuss Younger Line on October 1, 1848, the Gera rule, which had been formally existing until then, was dissolved in the newly founded principality. After the administrative reform in the newly founded principality, Hirschfeld (Russian part) was assigned to the Gera district office in 1852 . Hirschfeld (Reussian part) belonged to the Free State of Reuss Younger Line from 1918 , but as early as 1919 it merged with the Free State of Reuss Older Line to form the People's State of Reuss with the capital Gera . Through the provisions of the Unification Act, three district associations were set up, whereby Hirschfeld (Russian part) was assigned to the Gera district association .

With the formation of the state of Thuringia and the associated dissolution of the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg and the People's State of Reuss, Hirschfeld (Altenburg part) and Hirschfeld (Russian part) now belonged to the same German state. The political unification of the Altenburg and Russian parts to the municipality of Hirschfeld in the district of Gera took place through the regional reform in the state of Thuringia on October 1, 1922. During the Second World War , 67 prisoners of war and forced laborers had to work in agriculture.

During the second district reform in the GDR in July 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, the Hirschfeld community came to the Gera-Land district in the Gera district , which had belonged to Thuringia as the Gera district since 1990 and which was added to the Greiz district during the Thuringian district reform in 1994 .

29% of the residents of Hirschfeld are Protestant; Catholics were not found in the 2011 census . The parish of Hirschfeld belongs to the Pölzig parish in the Gera parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . The exterior of the hall church , which was still Romanesque in parts, was remodeled in a new Romanesque style in 1872 .

politics

Since the election on June 6, 2010, Ingo Giebner from the Hirschfeld voter community has once again been mayor. He was confirmed in office with 74.6% of the valid votes and a voter turnout of 61.8%.

The six members of the municipal council were determined in the local elections on May 25, 2014 in a majority vote. The turnout was 74.7% (+ 10.7% p).
