The House of Assembly (German: Assembly House ) is the lower house of the Parliament of Bahamas , which is based on the two-chamber system modeled on the British Westminster system .
The House of Assembly fulfills all important legislative functions. The Prime Minister is the chairman of the party that controls the majority of the parliamentary seats. The government can dissolve parliament at any time and call elections. It has consisted of 39 MPs since the 2017 election, up to then there were 38 MPs who are elected for five years according to the majority system. The seat of the lower house is in the capital Nassau .
