- Hanover / Germany : Federal President Johannes Rau and Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder open the world exhibition Expo 2000 , which should last until October 31.
- Tel Aviv / Israel : The Association Agreement between Israel and the European Union comes into force.
Friday June 2, 2000
- Aachen / Germany : The Charlemagne Prize is presented to the President of the United States, Bill Clinton . On the one hand, the award goes to Clinton's political work, on the other hand, with this award, on behalf of all Europeans, the awarders thank the American people “for building democracy and prosperity after 1945” on their continent.
- Mexico City / Mexico : The President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) José Sulaimán confirms that only Roy Jones junior is the reigning WBC light heavyweight world champion , even if the association passed the German Graciano Rocchigiani as number 1 between March and June 1998 . It was a " typographical error" in the printed ranking lists.

- Milan / Italy : The overall winner of the 83rd edition of the wheel - stage race Giro d'Italia goes to the Italians Stefano Garzelli . It is his first overall victory on this tour and the 58th for an Italian.
- New York / United States : At the 54th Tony Awards ceremony , Jennifer Ehle and Stephen Dillane are each recognized for best performance in a leading role in a play .
Saturday June 10, 2000
- Brussels / Belgium : The opening game of the 11th men's European football championship ends with a 2-1 win for the Belgian national football team against Sweden . The European Championship finals in the Netherlands and Belgium is the first to be hosted by two instead of just one national association.
- Dallas / United States : The Stanley Cup of the North American professional ice hockey league NHL this year goes to the New Jersey Devils , who win the sixth and decisive game of the final series against the Dallas Stars 2-1.

- Jeddah / Saudi Arabia : Yemen recognizes the border with Saudi Arabia in the Treaty of Jeddah.

- Honiara / Solomon Islands : Coup
- Pyongyang / North Korea : The first inter-Korean summit between South Korea and North Korea since the Korean War begins.

- Dortmund / Germany : In the murders of the police in Dortmund and Waltrop , neo-Nazi Michael Berger kills three police officers and then commits suicide .
- Geneva / Switzerland : The World Trade Organization (WTO) accepts the state of Georgia as a member.

- Berlin / Germany : The German Film Prize in Gold is awarded to Die Untouchbare by director and screenwriter Oskar Roehler .

- Algiers / Algeria : The Eritrea-Ethiopia war ends with the signing of the ceasefire agreement by the foreign ministers of both countries.

- Amman / Jordan : Ali Abu al-Ragheb replaces Abdelraouf al-Rawabdeh as Prime Minister of Jordan .

- Rotterdam / Netherlands : 20 years and six days after his first international match for the DFB, soccer player Lothar Matthäus is playing his 150th and last international match. With the 0: 3 against Portugal , the German team is eliminated from the European Championship tournament .
- California / United States : The American crossover band Red Hot Chili Peppers has released Californication, the fifth single from the album of the same name .

- Baden / Switzerland : Oscar Camenzind wins the Tour de Suisse cycle tour for the first time and as the 15th Swiss .

- Cotonou / Ethiopia : By signing the Cotonou Agreement , the European Union regulates its partnership relations with 79 countries around the world that are members of the ACP group . The majority of these countries are in Africa.

- Berlin / Germany : The Distance Selling Act comes into force in the Federal Republic of Germany . It includes u. a. the right of a consumer to revoke a declaration of intent made outside of business premises to purchase an item within 14 days.
