Saarlouis canton
The canton of Saarlouis ( French "canton de Sarre-Libre", later "canton de Sarrelouis") was a canton in the Moselle department that existed from 1795 to 1815 .
history
The canton was established in 1801 in what was then the Thionville arrondissement .
In 1802 the canton had 15,858 inhabitants in 27 municipalities.
In the Second Peace of Paris in 1815 , France had to cede 18 municipalities in the canton of Saarlouis to Prussia .
