The 23rd Kerrang! Awards took place on June 9, 2016 at Troxy in the British capital London .
The nominations for the award ceremony were officially announced on May 5, 2016. For the first time as a music fan, it was possible to attend the ceremony. The live acts included Asking Alexandria and A Day to Remember , which later received an award. This was part of a new strategy by the publisher Bauer Media Group , which would later also use this option at the Q Awards and the MOJO Awards . A total of 600 prominent guests and 700 regular visitors were to attend the event. 1,300 visitors were expected at the aftershow party. The award ceremony was moderated by Justin Hawkins from The Darkness and Benji Webbe from Skindred . Webbe has moderated this event several times in the past. All Time Low and Iron Maiden topped the list of nominees with two regular nominations each.
Webbe caused a scandal at the speech of Babymetal , which was awarded as the best live band , by constantly interrupting it and even correcting its English. He later apologized several times via Twitter to the band and their fan base.
