The shot put women at the 1962 European Athletics Championships was on 12 September 1962 at Belgrade's Partizan Stadium discharged.
In this competition, the Soviet shot putters won two medals, gold and bronze. The European champion was the Olympic champion from 1960 , the EM third from 1958 , the discus thrower from 1958 and the world record holder Tamara Press . Second place went to the GDR athlete Renate Garisch-Culmberger . Bronze went to the Olympic champion from 1952 and European champion from 1954 Galina Sybina .

European champion Tamara Press improved the championship record on September 12 by 2.81 m to 18.55 m. With this distance, she also equalized her own world record.

The 1960 Olympic sixth, Renate Garisch-Culmberger, became vice European champion - she won silver at the 1964 Olympic Games
Johanna Hübner - second in the Olympics in 1960 and fourth in the European Championship in 1958 (at that time under her former name Johanna Lüttge) - came fourth
Wilfriede Hoffmann took fifth place
Mary Peters (here in 2008) finished twelfth in this final - ten years later she won Olympic gold in the pentathlon
