The heptathlon for women in the 1982 European Athletics Championships was on 9 and 10 September 1982 at the Olympic Stadium of Athens discharged.

For the first time at a major international championship, the all-rounders had to complete seven rather than five disciplines. The javelin was new , and the 200-meter run , which had been part of the pentathlon until 1976 , came back into this all-around event.

In this competition there was a double victory for the heptathletes from the GDR. The European champion was the world record holder Ramona Neubert . She won ahead of Sabine Möbius , later as Sabine Paetz and then as Sabine John at the start. Bronze went to the German athlete Sabine Everts .

execution

The seven disciplines of the heptathlon took place over two days.
Day 1 - September 9: 100-meter hurdles , high jump , shot put , 200-meter run
Day 2 - September 10: long jump , javelin , 800-meter run

The scoring was based on the point table valid from 1980 to 1984.

For orientation and classification of the performances, the scores achieved in 1985 according to the current rating system are also listed for comparison. After that there would have been a shift at these European championships: Kristine Tånnander in eleventh place and Zsuzsa Vanyek in twelfth would have had to swap places.
These comparisons are only indicative, however, because the different standards of the time must apply as a basis. At the subsequent European Championships, the current rating was used.
