List of counties and duchies of France

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following list of counties and duchies of France contains the French lordships that arose from the Frankish Gauconstitution , the district of a count ( Comté ), as well as the lordships that developed from it.

Those rulers who - such as Lorraine, for example - came to France later were also accepted.

Most of these counties and duchies were attached to the crown domain ( Domaine royal ) and converted into provinces over the centuries . Other rulers were elevated to titular counties and duchies by raising their rank.
