List of nature reserves in the Kassel district

The nature reserves in the Kassel district belong to the total of around 250 nature reserves (NSG) in the Kassel district . Responsible is the Upper conservation authority in Kassel Regional Council , with the support of the actual nature reserves in Hesse as a rule by the State Office Hessen Forst done.

Deciduous forest, mainly beeches, on a hillside on the eastern edge of the Reinhardswald , opposite Bursfelde .
The protected area is used for forestry (as of 2018) and does not differ significantly from the neighboring deciduous forest.

2 historical fish ponds with streams and reed beds , grassland and trees, east of Kelze . The nature reserve is located immediately west of the B 83 and is surrounded by areas that are used intensively for agriculture, with almost no trees or bushes.

An asphalt farm road runs along the south-eastern edge of the protected area, from which the site can be viewed. From there, 2 paths cross the nature reserve. There is a shelter for animal observation on the way over the dam at the Upper Kelzer Pond .

Deciduous forest with wetland and wet meadow, approx. 500 m northeast of the outskirts of Vollmarshausen in the municipality of Lohfelden .
Area: 5.35 ha
The Kaufunger Strasse ( L 3203) cuts through the nature reserve and separates a deciduous forest with a wetland in the north from a small wet meadow in the south. The Franzosenstraße (F) hiking trail leads along the nature reserve, and on a small section through it.

Grassland with a pond and trees, directly northeast of Naumburg .
The name of the water bird sanctuary is derived from its former function: the communal land was made available to stallion owners as pasture to ensure local horse breeding. After the abandonment of this use, small ponds were created on the wet meadows in the 1970s. Today's big pond was filled in 1982.

Basalt knoll with rocky cliffs, trees and woods and a wood-free summit plateau directly on the western outskirts of Burghasungen , south of Zierenberg . The summit plateau with remains of the foundation of Hasungen Monastery is only about 500 m west of Autobahn 44 . In the forest on the eastern edge of the protected area is the mountain stage , which was built in the 1950s, with its auditorium in front of the basalt cliffs.

Heathland and forest west of Wilhelmshausen , on the southern edge of the Reinhardswald .
The Termenei was a military training area that was also used as a sheep pasture. In 1941, the area burned down two years later covered Heath an area of about 100 ha After 1945, large parts of the open terrain -. Mainly with spruce - planted. The protected area consists of 2 partial areas on the western edge of the Habichtswald, north of Ehlen : The larger is the deciduous dome of the Habichtsstein , the smaller is a pond or wetland, about 250 m west of it, at Gut Bodenhausen .

Lean-lime lawn with juniper stands and pine forest northeast of Altenhasungen near Wolfhagen . The sloping terrain lies on the lower western slope of the Großer Bärenberg .
In the northern part of the protected area is the natural monument "Shepherd's Beech" (6.33.861, see list of natural monuments in Wolfhagen ). In the southern part there is an orchard.
The protection goal is the preservation and development of the semi-arid grassland with its juniper trees while pushing back the forest pine stocks .

The former limestone quarry with its stony ground is located in the north of the protected area. To the south the terrain falls to the course of the Ballenbach with its narrow tree line. In addition to the meadow areas, there are extensive and spacious hedge areas. In the middle of the NSG there is a transmission mast that can be seen from afar.

Stream of the Lempe with grassland and forest east of Hombressen , in the Reinhardswald . The Lempetal forms an arc from the northern part, near Hombressen, to the southern part, which ends at Landesstraße 3229, the road that cuts through the Reinhardswald. The northern part with open grassland is very different from the inaccessible southern part, with old Hutebaum inventories directly and wetlands.
Area: 154.47 hectares (the largest NSG in the district of Kassel)
A forest path runs from Hombressen to L 3229 on the north and west edge of the nature reserve. Some paths also cross the NSG.
