Matthias Flach (rower)
Matthias Flach (born September 30, 1982 in Rostock ) is a former German oarsman. In 2006 he became world champion in the four-man team .
Matthias Flach started for the Olympic Rowing Club Rostock and trained with Dieter Grahn . He was already world champion in two with helmsman in the junior division . Since 2003 Flach started in the non-Olympic quad with helmsman and won one gold medal and three bronze medals at rowing world championships in five years . In the 2008 Olympic season, Flach moved up to eighth place in Germany . In 2008 Flach won bronze at the German Small Boat Championships ( German rowing championships ), together with Florian Mennigen , in a two-man team without a helmsman . Together with Andreas Penkner , Florian Mennigen and Kristof Wilke , he was placed in the four without a helmsman and immediately took bronze at the first rowing World Cup in Munich in 2008. Through his performance in the 2008 season he qualified for the Olympic team of the Germany eight. For a short time he acted as batsman in the newly filled eighth , but then swapped with Andreas Penkner. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , the German eighth with Matthias Flach as the last of the pre-run and hope run retired prematurely. In the overall classification, Flach also took eighth and last place with the Germany eighth. After participating in the Olympic Games, Matthias Flach ended his active career as a rower.
Matthias Flach is 2.00 m tall and graduated from the Ruhr University Bochum in 2012 with a degree in environmental technology and resource management.

- 2005: 3rd place in the four with (World Championships) with Toni Seifert , Matthias Flach, Johannes Doberschütz, Falk Müller and helmsman Martin Sauer
- 2006: 1st place in the foursome with (World Championships) with Florian Eichner , Philipp Naruhn , Jan-Martin Bröer and Matthias Flach and helmsman Martin Sauer
- 2007: 3rd place in the four with (World Championships) with Florian Mennigen , Stephan Koltzk , Philipp Naruhn, and Matthias Flach and helmsman Martin Sauer
- 2008: 8th place and participation in the 2008 Olympic rowing regatta with the Germany eighth
