Montils is a western French community with 853 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Saintes and the canton Thénac (until 2015: canton Pons ). The inhabitants are called Montiliens .

location

Montils is located in the old cultural landscape of the Saintonge about 14 kilometers southeast of Saintes . Montils is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Sever-de-Saintonge and Rouffiac in the north, Chérac in the northeast, Pérignac in the east, Saint-Seurin-de-Palenne in the south, Saint-Léger in the southwest, Colombiers in the west and Berneuil and Courcoury in the Northwest.
