Instrumental and vocal music (selection)
- Ludwig van Beethoven : The 2nd Symphony in D major, op. 36, will be premiered on April 5th at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. At the same time, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37, is played for the first time with the composer at the piano. It is dedicated to Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia . In the same year appear u. a. the following Beethoven works: 1st violin romance in G major op 40; the oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives and the spiritual song The honor of God from nature based on a poem by Christian Fürchtegott Gellert .
- Antonio Salieri : L'Oracolo for solos, four-part choir and orchestra ; Gesù al limbo for solos, four-part choir and orchestra ; Miserere nostri in E flat major for four-part choir and orchestra ;

- January 29, world premiere of the opera Ercole in Lidia by Johann Simon Mayr in the Vienna Burgtheater.
- February 15th : Premiere of the opera Delphis et Mopsa by André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry at the Paris Opera. It is the last published stage work by the composer, who published around 70 stage works in his long time as a musician.
- March 28 : Premiere of the opera Proserpine by Giovanni Paisiello in Paris.
- June 18th : Premiere of the opera Le Baiser et la quittance ou Une aventure de garnison by François-Adrien Boieldieu at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
