- July 29th : The Napoleonic theater decree limits the number of venues to eight large theaters in Paris, each of which must also specialize in a certain type of performance.

- Ludwig van Beethoven : Premiere of the 4th Symphony in B flat major Op. 60; Coriolan Overture, Op. 62; Overture No. 1 to the opera Leonore ; Mass in C major . The latter work was commissioned by Nikolaus II von Esterházy and premiered in Eisenstadt. But it was not to the client's taste.
- Johann Simon Mayr : Traiano all'Eufrate (cantata for 3 voices, choir and orchestra)
- Gioachino Rossini : Sinfonia di Bologna
- François-Adrien Boieldieu : Sonata for violin op. 7; Sonata for violin op.8

- Anton Eberl : In questa tomba oscura , Arietta for voice and piano, (one of the last works by the composer, who died in March)
- Johann Baptist Cramer : 4th Piano Concerto in C major, op.38

- February 24th : The world premiere of the melodrama Die Glocke by Justin Heinrich Knecht takes place in Stuttgart.
- March 19th World premiere of the opera Elisa by Giovanni Paisiello (composed with Johann Simon Mayr) in Naples.
- July 16 : World premiere of the opera The Fortress by James Hook
- August 17th : World premiere of the opera Né l'un, né l'altro by Johann Simon Mayr at the Scala in Milan.
