Petr Vabroušek (born September 27, 1973 in Prague ) is a Czech triathlete . He is runner-up European long-distance champion (1999), Ironman winner (2000) and multiple national champion in long-distance triathlon (2011-2015).

Career

Rowing 1982–1993

Vabroušek and his brothers were active in rowing for eleven years until 1993. His brother Michal Vabroušek (* 1975), who is two years his junior, is an active rower and competed in the 1996 and 2004 Olympic Games.

Triathlon short distance since 1989

As a 16-year-old Petr Vabroušek started his first triathlon in 1989 and stayed with it from 1993.
As an athlete, he is characterized by a special form of training: His preparation consists of completing around 50 endurance competitions of all kinds per year.

Long distance triathlon since 1993

In 1995 he became the Czech state duathlon champion.

In 1999 he became vice-European champion on the long distance triathlon in Almere.

The frequent starter Petr Vabroušek had already successfully completed six Ironman triathlons and two semi-Ironman competitions in the first half of 2008. In March 2011 he made his 100th start on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) in New Zealand and at the end of 2011 he had already successfully completed 108 long distance races look back. He is a member of the Titan Sport Club Kudlov and the triathlete with the most starts in the long distance worldwide. He also holds the record with 79 top ten placements in Ironman races and so far he has won twice. (As of April 2017).

In 2013 he won the marathon race and the 100-kilometer run at the Antarctic Ice Marathon . In 2015 he was able to win the marathon in the arctic ice again.

In September 2014 he finished fifth at the ETU Long Distance European Championship. As the second Czech after Jan Strangmüller (2000), he won the Austria Triathlon in September 2015 , after finishing third and second twice in previous years.
