The 2018/19 season was the 63rd season of the Ekstraliga , the highest Polish ice hockey division , and the 83rd edition of the Polish ice hockey championship. GKS Tychy became champion for the fourth time in its club history .

mode

In the main round, each of the eleven regular teams play a total of 42 games. The team from the Polish Association's youth training center, SMS Sosnowiec , was deployed 22 times. Each team receives three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime or shootout , one point for a defeat after overtime or shootout and zero points for a defeat after regular time. The best six teams take part directly in the playoffs for the championship title. The teams in places seven to ten played in a pre-playoff round according to the " Best of Three " mode from two further quarter-finals, while the losers of the pre-playoffs, together with the table eleventh and the champions of the second-class I-league, the remaining two Places for the coming season. The team of the youth academy of the Polish association Szkoła Mistrzostwa Sportowego did not have to take part in this elimination round - although the last one.

In the playoffs , starting with the quarterfinals, the individual rounds were in the "Best of Seven" mode. The two losers in the semi-finals played third place in the “Best of Three” mode.

Playouts

The playout games were originally supposed to take place in a round of four with return games from the two losers in the pre-playoffs, the eleventh of the regular round and the champions of the second-rate I-league . However, the league eleven Polonia Bytom did not appear in the games that were already scheduled, so that all of his games were rated 0: 5 as lost. Therefore, only the following games were played:

Since Orlik Opole could no longer overtake Naprzód Janów due to the direct comparison, the qualification of Zagłębie Sosnowiec and Naprzód Janow for the coming season was already fixed before the last game between these two teams and the venue was waived. Orlik Opole and Polonia Bytom had to move into the second class I league .
