Schoolyard CD project
The Schulhof-CD project was an advertising campaign by German right-wing extremists from the camp of the militant Free Comradeships in 2004, in which free music CDs were to be distributed near schools and youth clubs throughout Germany in order to interest young people in the right-wing extremist scene . According to the findings of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in North Rhine-Westphalia, an initial print run of 50,000 CDs was planned, which, however, could never be officially distributed due to a prohibition order. After the pilot project of the Free Comradeships, the NPD took up the concept of the schoolyard CD as an advertising medium and began producing its own schoolyard CDs in 2004 .
Contents of the CDs
Adaptation is cowardice. Songs from the Underground , 2004
On the propaganda CD entitled Adaptation is Cowardice. Songs from the underground are represented by 19 well-known German and international right-wing rock bands, including Noiewerte , Aryan Brotherhood , Stahlgewitter , Bound for Glory , Halgadom and HKL . The lyrics of the total of 20 songs, which cover several musical genres such as rock ballads , Hatecore and Neofolk , have inflammatory and violence-glorifying content that has been classified as criminally relevant by individual public prosecutors. The CD also contains multimedia elements, contact details and web links to organizations in the neo-Nazi scene such as mail orders or free comradeships .
The CD itself begins with a foreword, which says, among other things: “Our schools today have long since become a collecting tank for young serious criminals - mostly foreign gangs are in charge here. [...] We are not xenophobes! We love what is foreign - in a foreign country. ” This draws on the new right-wing concept of ethnopluralism and stands for the right-wing extremist core demand" Foreigners out! " The critical memory of the terror of National Socialism is attacked as "anti-German historiography".

Legal disputes over the CD
After the conspiratorial campaign became known at the end of June 2004, the project met with strong criticism in large parts of the population and in the media, as right-wing rock was criticized as the most effective recruitment option for the neo-Nazi scene and "exciting world of experience" for young people. Among other things, the state interior ministries of Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia warned of the action.
The Naumburg public prosecutor's office had obtained a nationwide confiscation order in order to ensure that, despite possible different legal views of the federal states, one could become active throughout the Federal Republic. The general confiscation of the CD was ordered on August 4, 2004 by the Halle District Court, as it was obviously capable of seriously endangering the development of children and young people or their upbringing to become independent and socially competent people. "Distributing [...] is a criminal offense according to Section 27 Paragraph 1 No. 1 and 2 of the Youth Protection Act in the version applicable from April 1, 2004. It can be punished with imprisonment of up to one year or a fine. ”In addition, it was determined that some texts are also punishable under Section 90a of the Criminal Code ( denigration of the state and its symbols ). Anyone who specifically procures the CD is also liable to prosecution.
After the distribution and distribution of the CD had been made punishable because of its content, which was seriously harmful to minors, the CD was offered for download on its own website. Since the server is located abroad, the authorities cannot intervene. The website was raised with poster campaigns near schools in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse.
Lutz Willert from Kuhlhausen, who was co-responsible for the production and distribution of the right-wing extremist CD, who was active in the right-wing rock and neo-Nazi scene, was brought before the Stendal district court in mid-July 2005, which aroused great media interest. During a raid in July 2004, a delivery note was found on him, on which he had acknowledged the acceptance of around 50,000 CDs by a carrier. The CDs were produced by a company in the Czech Republic and have not yet appeared. The project was also supported, for example, by the neo-Nazi Thorsten Heise from Fretterode in Northern Thuringia.
The NPD took up the idea
The National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) picked up the idea a little later and used its own CD productions for various election campaigns . As part of the elections for the Saxon state parliament in September 2004, the Saxon NPD regional association attempted to use the media attention with a so-called "Saxon schoolyard CD" for propaganda purposes. Announced as the start of a “young voter offensive”, over 25,000 CDs with the title Schnauze voll? Election day is payday! distributed with right-wing extremist music and party advertising. You can hear Michael “Lunikoff” Regener from the neo-Nazi band Landser , the singer Frank Rennicke , who has been convicted of sedition several times , Noiewerte , Sleipnir and the singer-songwriter Annett Müller . The CD was compiled by Jens Pühse . Using a comic, the young people are told why they should be proud to be German. With an order form on the back of the cover, the youngsters can get a badge with the inscription “I am proud to be a German” as well as other information material about the NPD. Direct entry into the NPD is also possible with the help of the coupon. The same CD was used again in the 2005 state elections in Schleswig-Holstein. Also for the 2005 Bundestag election campaign, the NPD distributed 200,000 free CDs in front of schools as part of a “young voter offensive”.
These campaigns are intended to address first-time voters as an important target group for the NPD. In addition to the electoral program, the German song with all three stanzas can be found on the CD The Terror of All Left-wing Bourgeois and Pauker . Since then, a number of these CDs have been released under changing titles and with different performers.
In 2010, the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office tried to have one of the sound carriers indexed by the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People (BPjM), but it failed. Elke Monssen-Engberding , head of the federal inspection agency , replied to the Norddeutscher Rundfunk that it was always a matter of “weighing up the protection of minors and freedom of expression”. The authority is not allowed to index anything just because of the political content. Violence is not called for on the CD.

Other countries
Project Schoolyard
Right-wing extremists took up this concept in other countries as well. For example, the US label Panzerfaust Records , whose Internet forum at the beginning of 2004 saw the first indications of the planned “Aktion Schulhof”, launched its own “Project Schoolyard”. For this purpose, 100,000 copies of a “pro-White sampler” are said to have been planned, which should be distributed to 13 to 19 year old students in the USA under the provocative slogan “We don't just entertain racist kids - we can do them!”. When it became known that one of the label owners had a Latin American mother, his business partner immediately dissolved the company for racist reasons. As a result, the CD was ultimately not distributed. The CD was only distributed via mail order.
In 2009 the Tightrope initiative published a sampler entitled Project Schoolyard 2 .

Countermeasures
In addition to police and youth protection work, several projects were created to counter right-wing extremist propaganda. In addition to the educational work of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution , academic workplaces, associations against the law and journalists in Germany created educational brochures, arguments against and reports on the various advertising campaigns, with a focus on the NPD schoolyard CDs.
The protection of the constitution of North Rhine-Westphalia distributed a manga- style comic against right-wing extremist propaganda. Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder presented a free CD on August 18, 2008 with the title Together against Right , in which music groups and artists such as Die Fantastischen Vier , Max Herre , Sportfreunde Stiller and Afrob took part. In addition to Gerhard Schröder, Smudo and Norbert Leisegang from Keimzeit were sponsors of the project. The Brandenburg Against Right Association also released a CD entitled Hörbar tolerant with groups such as Rosenstolz , Silbermond and Jeanette Biedermann . Further CDs, some from private individuals, as well as several concerts followed in recent years.
SDAJ schoolyard CD
As a counter-reaction, the Marxist-Leninist- oriented Socialist German Workers' Youth (SDAJ) released a CD in 2007 with the title Together against Right - The Red Schoolyard CD (Love Music - Hate Fascism!) , Which was also distributed in German schoolyards. According to the German Federal Constitutional Protection Report 2007, the album contains "songs of the communist and labor movements of the 1930s and communist partisans of the 1940s and the youth organization of the former GDR , ' Free German Youth ' (FDJ), and the anthem of the former GDR".
