The Real Racing Club de Santander, SAD , commonly known as Racing Santander in German-speaking countries , is a Spanish football club (sports stock corporation) based in Santander , Cantabria . It was founded on June 14, 1913 and was given the attribute Real (German: royal ) in 1914 .

history

Racing was one of the founding members of the Primera División in the 1928/29 season, took last place in the season, but was not relegated. In 1931 the club was runner-up behind Athletic Bilbao , the greatest success in the club's history to this day.

From 1941 to 1973 the association operated under the name Real Sociedad Deportiva Santander , as a French decree had ordered the removal of all non-Spanish-speaking parts of the name.

In the 2007/08 season Racing completed his 40th season in the Primera División. At the end of the 2011/12 season Racing rose from bottom of the table in the Segunda División . In the 2012/13 season he fell into the third-class Segunda Division B.

Stadion

Racing Santander plays its games in the municipal stadium Campos de Sport de El Sardinero , or "El Sardinero" for short. The stadium is located on the edge of the El Sardinero district of the same name , which is also known for its extensive sandy beaches. The current stadium was inaugurated on August 20, 1988 and replaced an older stadium of the same name that had been in the immediate vicinity. Today El Sardinero is purely a seated stadium and seats 22,500 spectators. It also houses the administration of the association.
