The Senate of Rhode Island ( Rhode Island State Senate ) is the upper house of the Rhode Island General Assembly , the legislature of the US state of Rhode Island .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 38 senators, each representing an electoral district. The senators are each elected for two-year terms. Furthermore, Rhode Island is one of 14 states whose upper house has a two-year term rather than a four-year term, as is the case in most states. There are no term limits.

The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Rhode Island State House in the capital, Providence .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other states and territories and in the US Senate , the Rhode Island Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.

Structure of the chamber
