Saint-Ouen-sur-Loire is part of the Arrondissement of Nevers and the Canton of Imphy ( La Machine until 2015 ).

Saint-Ouen-sur-Loire is located about fifteen kilometers southeast of Nevers on the Loire , which borders the municipality to the west. Saint-Ouen-sur-Loire is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Fermeté in the north, Beaumont-Sardolles in the northeast, Druy-Parigny in the east and southeast, Béard in the south, Luthenay-Uxeloup in the west and southwest and Imphy in the northwest.
