Chantenay-Saint-Imbert is located about 28 kilometers south of Nevers am Allier . Chantenay-Saint-Imbert is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier in the north, Azy-le-Vif in the northeast, Toury-sur-Jour in the east, Tresnay in the south, and Saint-Léopardin-d'Augy in the south Southwest as well as Livry in the west and northwest.

The National Route 7 runs through the municipality .
