Marzy is a commune with 3672 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Nevers and the canton of Fourchambault . The inhabitants are called Marzois .
geography
Marzy is located in central France on an arch of the Loire , into which the Allier river flows on the opposite side . Marzy is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Fourchambault in the north, Varennes-Vauzelles in the northeast, Nevers in the east, Challuy in the southeast, Gimouille in the south, Cuffy in the west and southwest and Cours-les-Barres in the northwest.
Most of the Nevers-Fourchamboult Airport (IATA code: NVS) is located in the municipality.
history
The place is of Roman origin; it is located on the Roman road from Lutetia ( Paris ) to Decetia ( Decize ). As early as 887, the Ecclesia de Marsiaco (English: Church of Marsiacum) is mentioned in Gallia christiana . Around 1180 the place is named as Marzeium.
