The Scottish League Cup was played for the 8th time in 1953/54 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 8, 1953 and ended with the final on October 24, 1953 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As defending champion, FC Dundee started the competition that had prevailed against FC Kilmarnock in the previous year's final . In this year's final, FC East Fife met Partick Thistle . The Fifers reached the final in the League Cup for the third time after 1948 and 1950 . The Jags from Glasgow moved into the final for the first time. The Fifers won the final 3-2. In the Scottish Championship , East Fife finished sixth, the Jags third.
