at-Tūr (sura)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At-Tūr ( Arabic الطور at-Tūr  'The Mountain') is the 52nd sura of the Koran , it contains 49 verses . The sura belongs to the first Meccan period (610–615), its title refers to the first verse.

Similar to the beginning of many other suras, the first six verses after the introductory Basmala consist of a series of oaths heralding Judgment Day . After the punishment of the unbelievers in hell up to verse 16, the reward of the godly in paradise follows in verses 17-28. The part from verse 29 deals in detail with the adversaries of the prophet, who consider his Quranic message to be personal poetry. The last two verses call upon Muhammad to be patient and to praise God.
