Origin and meaning
Sibylle is a word in ancient Greek for a divinely inspired seer and was first found in written form around 370 BC. In Phaedrus of Plato . As a name for wise, prophetically gifted women, Sibylla is then used as a name in other European linguistic usage via the Latin language, especially from the early Middle Ages, in various variants. Subsequently, Sibylle or Sibille could also be found in the first German dictionaries.
