Association of Swabian-Alemannic fools' guilds
The Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fools 'Guilds ( VSAN ) is the umbrella organization founded in 1924 of 68 traditionally oriented fools' guilds for the Swabian-Alemannic Carnival . The fools' guilds are located in the administrative districts of Freiburg , Tübingen , Stuttgart (all Baden-Württemberg), Swabia (Bavaria) and in four cantons in German-speaking Switzerland .
history
The association of Swabian-Alemannic fools guilds was founded on November 16, 1924 as the first umbrella organization of the Swabian-Alemannic carnival in Villingen . Founding members were 13 fool's guilds and associations from Bräunlingen , Donaueschingen , Elzach , Haslach , Hüfingen , Laufenburg , Oberndorf , Offenburg ( old historical fool's guild Offenburg ), Rottweil , Schramberg , Stockach , Villingen and Waldshut . It was initially founded under the working title of the Gauverband Baden and Württemberg fools' guilds ; the name of the Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fools' Guilds was only decided at the general meeting on November 30, 1930 in Oberndorf. The first president of the association was Benjamin Grüninger from Villingen, who died in 1927. His successor was Albert Fischer, who was also a member of the Villingen Narro Guild .
The seizure of power by the National Socialists in Germany in 1933 also had consequences for unification. From 1934 the president called himself Führer ; the association joined the Reich Chamber of Culture of the NSDAP . In 1937 a carnival congress organized by the National Socialists took place in Munich, in which Albert Fischer also took part as chairman of the association. The association was subsequently included in the newly founded Bund Deutscher Karneval. In the same year, a survey was carried out within the association to determine which member guilds had a historically grown carnival in their place. A number of guilds were classified in the category of non-historical guilds. The guilds from Freiburg and Breisach , which were included, therefore withdrew from the association and founded the Association of Upper Rhine Fools' Guilds (VON). With the outbreak of the Second World War, the activities of the association and its member guilds were largely suspended.
After the Second World War, individual fools' guilds were re-established in the French occupation zone from 1946 with the approval of the military administrations . On October 13, 1946, it was decided to re-establish the Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fools' Guilds at a meeting in Villingen. Albert Fischer was again elected to the first board. On April 24, 1949, the Association of Alemannic Fools' Guilds received final approval from the French military government. In 1952, the Villingen district councilor Weibert Zehnder became the new president.
The fifties were marked by disputes within the association over the preservation of the carnival traditions. In 1953 the tradition-conscious fools' guilds from Elzach , Rottweil and Überlingen left . They were followed in 1955 by the Historisches Narrozunft Villingen 1584 e. V. and in 1958 the Oberndorf fools guild .
Weibert Zehnder's successor was Hans Ströhle from Markdorf after 1960. Elzach, Rottweil, Oberndorf and Überlingen have formed a loose four-way union without any statutes since 1963 . The very restrictive admission procedure of the Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fools' Guilds also led to the establishment of numerous other fool's associations within the Swabian-Alemannic Carnival with less strict regulations on customs and the acceptance of new guilds. Examples are the Narrenvereinigung Hegau-Bodensee (NVHB - founded 1959), Association of Hochrheinischer Narrenzunft (VHN, founded 1964) and the Alemannische Narrenring (ANR, founded 1969). From 1977 to 1989 Karl Dilger from Donaueschingen and from 1989 to 1995 Horst Bäckert from Lindau were president of the association. In 1996 Roland Wehrle from Furtwangen became the new president.
In July 2012, with the Schnabelgiere Meersburg fools guild, a fools guild was excluded from the association for the first time. According to a resolution from 1988, the association no longer allows new groups of witches for the fools' guilds. In 1995, the Meersburg fools guild submitted an application for approval of a castle witch group. Since then, no agreement on the castle witches has been reached between the fools' guild and the association.
Structure and purpose
The association of Swabian-Alemannic fools 'guilds now includes 68 fools' guilds from Baden-Württemberg , Bavaria ( Lindau ) and Switzerland ; Since the entry in the register of associations in 1978, the registered office has been Bad Dürrheim . The aims of the association are to maintain and promote the carnival tradition in the Swabian-Alemannic language area, to advise the member guilds and to represent their interests towards third parties ( lobbying ) as well as to promote carnival research.
In Bad Dürrheim, the association has been running the Narrenschopf as a museum and event location since May 5, 1973 .
The organ of the association is the annual journal Journal Schwäbisch-Alemannischer Fastnacht .
Bureau
Roland Wehrle ( Furtwangen Fool's Guild ) has been president since 1996 . Vice-presidents are Otto Gäng from Markdorf and Peter Schmidt from Munderkingen.
The executive committee includes the board of directors as well as the landscape representatives of the landscapes and the cultural advisory board. The Presidium and the landscape representatives are elected by the annual general meeting. The general meeting always takes place on the weekend after Epiphany . In the autumn there will be another general assembly with the autumn working conference, at which, however, no elections etc. will take place, but only content-related topics will be dealt with.
Intangible cultural heritage
In December 2014, at the request of the VSAN, the German UNESCO Commission registered the Swabian-Alemannic Carnival as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Since then, VSAN and the Cologne Carnival have endeavored to become a World Heritage Site.
Member guilds
Since 1964, the member guilds are eight landscapes associated with:
- Baar
- Lake Constance - Linzgau - Switzerland
- Danube
- Hegau
- Upper Rhine
- Neckar - Alb
- Upper Swabia - Allgäu
- Black Forest
Most annually find landscape meeting place of the respective country. All member guilds of a region meet here, but other guilds are usually invited as well.
Every four years the 68 member guilds and the “partners of the association” meet for a big VSAN fools' meeting. The last meeting took place on January 18 and 19, 2020 in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt . For the 100th anniversary of VSAN, the next big meeting of fools is to take place in 2024. A venue has not yet been published (as of January 2020).
