List of lieutenant governors of Louisiana
The office of vice governor has existed in the US state of Louisiana since 1846. Up until this point in time, in the event of the death or resignation of a governor , the president of the state senate was succeeded pro tempore . The lieutenant governor was also President of the State Senate until a constitutional amendment in 1974 abolished this rule. The lieutenant governor is elected by the people in a separate election (not on a so-called ticket together with the governor).
During the civil war there were at times two incumbents. The part of Louisiana belonging to the Confederation had a lieutenant governor, as did the territories that were occupied by the Union .
