Walter Jones Jr. (born on 19th January 1974 in Aliceville , Alabama is) a former US American football poker players on the position of offensive tackles , 13 years in the National Football League was (NFL) enabled. He played college football for Florida State University and then spent his entire professional career with the Seattle Seahawks . During this time he was elected nine times to the Pro Bowl , as well as to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team . He was in the starting line-up in 180 games in a row, allowed only 23 sacks in 5,500 attempts and received nine holding penalties. On February 1, 2014, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame at the earliest possible date .

college

Jones attended Holmes Community College for two years, where he was named Mississippi Junior College Player of the Year in 1994. There he played tight end as well as offensive tackle . After moving to Florida State University, he played for the Seminoles in 1995 and 1996 under Head Coach Bobby Bowden . In 1996 he was on the starting line-up in eleven games and allowed a sack. After the season he decided to participate in the 1997 NFL Draft , and thus to forego another possible year at college.

NFL

Jones was selected in the 1997 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round, sixth. From then on, he was in the starting line-up in every game, including his rookie season . In 2005, he was a member of the team that made it to Super Bowl XL and was ranked number one of the 101 best NFL players by Sporting News.

Jones has been elected to the Pro Bowl nine times and named All-Pro seven times . He was arguably the best in his position in his day, as evidenced by his appointment to the NFL 2000s All Decade Team. From 1998 to 2000, he helped Ricky Watters run over 1,000 yards three times in a row and later contributed to Shaun Alexander's NFL records.

In his 180th game of Thanksgiving 2008 against the Dallas Cowboys , a knee injury ended his career. An operation was necessary, which ended the season prematurely for him. In 2009 he tried to reconnect with the team, which he did not succeed and therefore had to suspend another season. After the season he announced his resignation on April 29, 2010 on Twitter . A day later, the Seahawks announced that his jersey number 71 would no longer be used in the future and Governor Christine Gregoire declared April 30th to be "Walter Jones Day" in Washington State .

On December 5, 2010, in the game against the Carolina Panthers , his number 71 jersey was officially retired at CenturyLink Field . After # 80 for Steve Largent and # 96 for Cortez Kennedy , Jones is only the third Seahawks player whose number is no longer awarded (# 12 is also not awarded in honor of the fans). After the five-year waiting period after retirement, Jones was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014. This makes him the third Seahawk after Steve Largent and Cortez Kennedy to receive this honor and who has spent his entire career in Seattle. On November 2, 2014, at halftime in the game against the Oakland Raiders , Jones was inducted into the Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor as the eleventh player .
