Wasai is a village in the municipality of Liebenfels in the Sankt Veit an der Glan district in Carinthia . The village has 42 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The village lies entirely within the territory of the Liemberg cadastral community . The place name is derived from the Slovenian vosoje (= shady side ).

location

The village is located in the southwest of the Sankt Veit an der Glan district, on the northern slope south of the Liembergbach and in the Liembergbach valley. It is the only place in the former municipality of Liemberg , which was also south of the Liembergbach. In the south, the place has grown together with the neighboring scattered settlement Mauer of the municipality of Glanegg from the neighboring district of Feldkirchen .

history

The Wasai branch church was first mentioned in 1408. The small town was part of the Liemberg tax district in the first half of the 19th century . With the creation of the political communities in the middle of the 19th century, the place came to the community Liemberg , with their dissolution in 1958 to the community Liebenfels.
