The 1970/71 season of the 1st division was the 28th regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . In the playoff final, the army sports club Dukla Jihlava prevailed with 3-0 victories against the ZKL Brno . For the team it was their fifth Czechoslovak championship title . The TJ Škoda Plzeň rose from bottom of the table in the second division, while the TJ Gottwaldov secured promotion to the first division in the league qualification.

mode

As in the previous season, the league was played with ten teams. Since each team played two home and two away games against each group opponent, the total number of games per team in the main round was 36 games. Then, unlike in previous years, the best four teams played out the champions in the playoffs. While the semi-finals took place in best-of-seven mode, the final was played in best-of-five mode and the game for third place in best-of-three mode. The bottom of the table in the main round rose directly to the respective national championship.

1st league qualification

The winners of the three second division groups , VTŽ Chomutov , TJ Gottwaldov and Dukla Trenčín , as well as the group runner-up I. ČLTK Prague played in a round trip for admission to the first division for the following season. Gottwaldov prevailed with ten points.
