Section fortification at Spitziger Berg

The Spitziger Berg section fortification is located in the Tannlohe district of the Upper Palatinate municipality of Birgland in the Amberg-Sulzbach district of Bavaria . The section fortification is located 500 m east-southeast of the Lichtenegg castle ruins on the summit of the Spitzinger mountain. The property is managed by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments under monument number D-3-6535-0022 as a "rampart of prehistoric and early historical or medieval times".

description

The conical Spitzinger Berg has an elongated crest that is raised by a low rock ridge. A ditch separates the actual mountain peak from the hinterland. In the south of the ridge a small 30 m long wall has been excavated from the inside, which leans against the rock with both ends and encloses a narrow interior. Its height is about 1 m. A gate opening is indicated by overlapping wall legs.
