The Eberburg castle ruins , also known as Ebermannsdorf Castle , are the ruins of a hilltop castle in the forest at 425  m above sea level. NN above the community Ebermannsdorf in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in Bavaria .

history

The castle was the ancestral seat of the noble family of Ebermannsdorfer, who were first mentioned in 1079. In 1123 a Razo from Ebermannsdorf and 1129 a landlord from Ebermannsdorf appeared in documents from the Ensdorf monastery ; a chapel “St. John the Baptist ”mentioned in the annex. 1309 the family with Albert von Ebermannsdorf should have died out. In 1364 a Dietrich Tanlacher and in 1464 and 1476 a Jacob Kemnater was named.

Little is known about the history of the castle; Presumably, the residents moved to Ebermannsdorf Castle, a little lower down, in the 18th century , which was extensively renovated in the 20th century.

From the former castle with the original dimensions of 23 by 24 meters, surrounded by a ring wall are only of the 16 meter high octagonal probably five-story keep ( residential tower ) from limestone -Quadern with the high input condition in height of 4 meters, as well as minor wall remains. The first floor had a fireplace and a toilet. The space between the walls was filled with rubble and mortar . The tower is the oldest preserved polygonal keep in Bavaria. Traces of herringbone masonry point to a previous building of the castle.
