Ringwall Ensdorf (Bavaria)
Ensdorf ring wall

The ring wall Ensdorf , also called Wallburg Hierlberg , is located in the Upper Palatinate municipality of Ensdorf in the Amberg-Sulzbach district of Bavaria . The ring wall is located in the Hierlberg (Hirlberg) corridor , approx. 450 m north of the Ensdorf church.

description

On the tip of a flat, south-protruding tongue of the Alb plateau between the Vils and Schustertal valleys, an irregularly round wall surrounds the bare knoll , which is separated from the hinterland by a deep hollow. The wall is still 0.1-0.4 m high inside, the enclosed area is 26 × 22 m. In the west, a sickle-shaped, flattened embankment can be seen 11 m away. A gate cannot be located with certainty, the existing wall interruptions can be traced back to excavation cuts. Stones are built into the wall.

history

Due to excavations by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in 1932, numerous fragments from the Urnfield period were found. These are located in the Archaeological Museum of the Upper Palatinate in Amberg . Further high and late medieval readings (gold mica clay) are kept in the Regensburg Historical Museum .
