The Zant castle ruins are the remains of a hilltop castle on a ridge that slopes steeply on three sides on the western tip of the castle hill at 510  m above sea level. NHN north of Zant , a district of the Ursensollen municipality in the Amberg-Sulzbach district in Bavaria . About 300 meters to the southwest is the castle stables of the former Zant ring wall .

history

The castle was built at the end of the 12th century by the Lords of Zant as the ancestral seat and mentioned in 1130. 1132 Luitpold de Zante is mentioned in the donation book of the Obermünster Abbey. The lords of Zant can be traced here up to the 14th century (Otto von Zant 1287 and 1319, Ulrich von Zant 1326, Wernher Zantner 1340), then they seem to have migrated to one of the castle estates of Rieden . Heinrich and Ulrich Liebenecker are in Zant between 1398 and 1438, towards the end of the 15th century the Zanters are again the local owners: In 1480 Andres Zant appears in the registers of the Landsasen, followed by Karl Zanter until 1499; until 1570 they are the owners of the castle. In 1575 they can be found in Münchszell , but until 1598 they were enfeoffed with Zant's tithes . Between 1579 and 1580 Philipp von Kemnath zu Zant and Hohenkemnath is mentioned here . In 1585 Wilhelm Rummel called himself from Lonnerstadt to Zant. The Rummels stayed on Zant until 1807. They were replaced by the Podewils family .
