Aleš Kranjc (born July 29, 1981 in Jesenice , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Olimpija Ljubljana in the Alps Hockey League since 2018 .

He is considered to be an extremely offensive type of player who, however, shows some deficits in defense work.

Career

Aleš Kranjc learned to play ice hockey in his hometown at HK Jesenice , for which he made his debut in the Slovenian ice hockey league in the 1997/98 season and where he soon became an important part of the team as an attacking defender. During his twelve years with the club, the left shooter was able to win the Slovenian championship title three times (2005, 2006 and 2008) with Jesenice . In 2006 he won the Interliga with HK Jesenice and, as the top scorer in the playoffs, contributed significantly to this success. When the team was accepted into the Austrian ice hockey league in 2006, Kranjc was also part of the regular squad and established itself among the best defenders in the league. For example, in 2008 he was nominated for the ÖEHL's KELLY'S All-Star Game .

For the 2009/10 season he left Slovenia and moved to Vienna Capitals in the Austrian EBEL . In the run-up to the 2010/11 season , the defensive player signed a contract with league rivals Alba Volán Székesfehérvár , where he scored three goals and 14 assists in 40 games. The following season Kranjc played with Székesfehérvár in the Hungarian ice hockey league , in which they won the national championship title straight away in 2011 . For the 2011/12 season he signed a contract with HC České Budějovice from the Czech Extraliga and also took part with the team in the European Trophy . In the summer of 2012, Kranjc was initially signed by the Kölner Haien from the German Ice Hockey League as part of a trial contract for the duration of the season preparation , before this was extended in September 2012 for the entire season .

After two years he left Cologne and moved to the Wysschaja Hockey League for HK Kuban Krasnodar . After only five appearances for the Russian second division club, Kranjc decided in October 2014 for a trial contract with Södertälje SK in HockeyAllsvenskan , which was extended a month later until the end of the current season. In the summer of 2015 he signed a contract with the Piráti Chomutov from the Czech extra league , where he was released after only eight games in October 2015. He then moved to EC Graz 99ers , for whom he played in the Austrian ice hockey league until 2016 .

International

For Slovenia , Kranjc took part in the junior division at the U18 B European Championship in 1997 , the U18 C European Championship in 1998 and the U18 World Championship in 1999 in European Division I, when he was elected best defender, as well as the U20 Junior C World Championships In 1999 and 2000 and after the conversion to the current division system, took part in the 2001 World Cup in Division II.

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad for the first time at the 2000 B World Cup . After switching to the division system, he played in the top division in 2003 , 2006 , when he was the top scorer among defensive players with four goals, in 2008 , 2011 , 2013 and 2015 . In 2004 , 2010 , 2012 and 2016 he and his team competed in Division I. He also represented his nation in the qualifying tournaments for the 2006 , 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics and at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi itself, where the Slovenes achieved a surprising seventh place.
