Gradowo ( German  Althagel ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the Gmina Barciany (rural community Barten ) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Geographical location

Gradowo is located in the northern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, twelve kilometers south of the former district town of Gerdauen (now in Russian Schelesnodoroschny ) and 20 kilometers northwest of today's district metropolis Kętrzyn ( German  Rastenburg ).

history

Until 1945, Althagel was a Vorwerk of Willkamm ( Polish: Wielewo ) in the East Prussian district of Gerdauen . In 1905 Althagel had 65 inhabitants.

In 1945 Althagel was transferred to Poland as a result of the war with all of East Prussia . The place received the Polish name form "Gradowo". Today the hamlet ( Przysiółek in Polish ) is assigned to the neighboring village of Ruta (Rauttershof) and is thus part of the rural municipality of Barciany (Barten) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 of the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then it has belonged to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.

church

Until 1945 Althagel was parish in the Protestant Church of Molthainen (1938 to 1945 Molteinen , in Polish Mołtajny ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Bruno in Insterburg ( Chernjachowsk in Russian ) in the then diocese of Warmia .

Today Gradowo belongs on the catholic side to the parish Mołtajny in the current Archdiocese of Warmia , on the evangelical side to the parish Barciany, a branch parish of the Johanneskirche in Kętrzyn within the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Anielin Gradowo train station

Geographical location of the Anielin Gradowo train station

Between 1957 and 2007 the railway station "Anielin Gradowo" existed just a few kilometers west of Gradowo. It was the starting point of the railway line to Wielewo (-Schelesnodoroschny) of the Polish State Railways (PKP) , which was created between 1952 and 1956 for military and later also civil trade purposes between the People's Republic of Poland and the Soviet Union and was used from January 1, 1957. Anielin Gradowo was the reloading station; because from here the railroad ran on a single track and with a gauge of 1524 cm. After Anielin Gradowo, a branch line from Modgarby (Modgarben) only a few kilometers long led from the Posen – Toruń – Skandawa (–Schelesnodoroschny) railway . The Anielin Gradowo train station was closed on March 14, 2007. Most of the track systems are still there.
