Auraiya ( Hindi : औरैया जिला) is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

Auraiya is 80 km west of the city of Kanpur in the Kanpur division . In the south, the Yamuna River borders the district. The district was created on September 17, 1997 from the Tehsils Auraiya and Bidhuna of the Etawah district . The capital is the city of Auraiya . The district covers 2016 km².

The population of Auraiya was 1,379,545 at the 2011 census. 10 years earlier it was 1,179,993. The gender ratio was 864 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 78.95% (86.11% for men, 70.61% for women). 92.32% of the population were Hindu and 7.39% were Muslim .
