Böhm (organ builder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Böhm is the name of a former family of organ builders in Gotha, Thuringia . The family's organ building tradition dates back to 1888. The most important representatives of Böhm's organ building were Hugo (1862–1935, founded the company in Waltershausen in 1888, moved to Gotha in 1900) and Rudolf Böhm (1895–1966). After the First World War , the company was able to keep up with the production of electric wind generators, which it sold as the sole manufacturer in the GDR. In organ building, the company particularly impressed with its small instruments and its own positive series. The last organ builder in the family was Gerhard Böhm (1926–2016), who took over the company from his father Rudolph in 1962 and ceased operations at the beginning of the 21st century, partly for reasons of age.

Works

Note: The sources often indicate the Rudolf Böhm company , under whose name Gerhard Böhm also worked. Organ works that were installed after Rudolf's death in 1966 were not built by Rudolf Böhm himself, but by Gerhard. Organs were also installed by Hugo until around 1935.
