The Kolomea District (rarely also Kołomyja District ) was a political district in the crown land of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria . Its territory covered parts of eastern Galicia in what is now western Ukraine ( Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast , Kolomyja district and parts of Tlumach district , Snjatyn district and Horodenka district ), the seat of the district administration was the city of Kolomea . In November 1918, after the collapse of the Danube Monarchy at the end of World War I, the district was briefly part of the West Ukrainian People's Republic .

It bordered on the north by the district Tłumacz , in the northeast on the district Horodenka , in the southeast of the district Sniatyn , the south by the district Kosów , in the southwest of the district Peczenizyn and in the northwest on the district Nadwórna .

A forerunner of the later district (administrative and judicial authority at the same time) was created at the end of 1850, the district administration Kolomea was subordinate to the government area of ​​Stanislau and comprised the following judicial districts:

  • Jabłonow judicial district

After the announcement in 1854, on September 29, 1855 the Kolomea District Office (still responsible for administration and jurisdiction) was established within the Kolomea District.

After the district offices were abolished at the end of October 1865 and their competencies were transferred to the district offices , the division of the country into two administrative areas was also abolished after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise in 1867. In addition, in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, separate administrative and judicial authorities were created. While the judicial division remained largely unaffected, municipalities of several judicial districts were combined into administrative districts.

The new political district of Kolomea was formed from the following districts:

The Kolomea district consisted of 64 parishes and 44 manor areas at the 1910 census and covered an area of ​​800 km². In 1900 the population was 109,212, in 1910 124,850 people lived here. The majority of the population lived in the area with Ruthenian colloquial language (62%) and the Greek Catholic faith, Jews made up around 19% of the population.

On June 15, 1898, the judicial district of Peczeniżyn was spun off from the political district and incorporated into an independent district of Peczeniżyn .
