Chilly is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Chilly is 483 m above Frangy , about 17 kilometers northwest of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The farming village extends on a plateau south of the Usses valley , in the hill country between the Usses and Fier valley cuts at the northern foot of the Crêt de Charmont.
The area of the municipality of 18.58 km² includes a section of the Genevois . The northern border always runs in the area of the valley lowlands of the Uss, a left tributary of the Rhone . From the mostly wooded valley floor, the community area extends southwards over the Chilly plateau, which is divided by various short side valleys of the Usses. Further south there is a hilly landscape with the Bois des Bolioz , the Crêt de Charmont (at 730 m the highest elevation in Chilly) and the height of Mougny.
In addition to the actual town center, Chilly also includes various hamlet settlements and farms, including:
- Quincy ( 469 m ) on the plateau east of the Bois des Bolioz
- Ferraz ( 520 m ) on the eastern slope of the Bois des Bolioz
- Bottilly ( 440 m ) on the plateau south of the Vallée der Usses
- Mannecy ( 570 m ) on a saddle northwest of the Crêt de Charmont
- Curnillex ( 540 m ) in a hollow at the northern foot of the hilly landscape
- Vernay ( 500 m ) on the plateau east of the village
- Coucy ( 590 m ) in the headwaters of the Morge east of the Crêt de Charmont
- Mougny ( 620 m ) in the headwaters of the Morge

history
The village was first mentioned in a document in the early 15th century. The place name is derived from the old French word chaillou (pebble stone, flat stone). Chilly was assigned to the newly created Canton of Frangy in 1860 ; before it belonged to the canton of Seyssel .

The village church in Sardinian style dates from the 19th century. There's a lock in Quincy.

With 1,382 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Chilly is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, the number of inhabitants decreased continuously due to strong emigration (in 1861 there were still 1,407 inhabitants in Chilly). Since the mid-1970s, however, a significant increase in population has been recorded.
Economy and Infrastructure
Chilly is still today a predominantly agricultural village. There are also some local small businesses. Many workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Annecy area.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is via a road that branches off the main road N508 (Annecy-Bellegarde-sur-Valserine). There are local road connections with Clermont, Menthonnex-sous-Clermont and La Balme-de-Sillingy . The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around 15 km away.
