Colin Bucksey
Colin M. Bucksey (* 1946 in Camberwell , London , England ) is a British - American film director , film producer and cameraman . Bucksey was involved in the international series Breaking Bad , Person of Interest and Fargo , among others .
Career
Bucksey first appeared in 1973 in the semi-documentary film A Bigger Splash about British artist David Hockney . He was one of the cinematographers involved alongside lead cinematographer Jack Hazan . The film addresses a difficult time in Hockney's life. The film title goes back to his painting A Bigger Splash . This was followed by further work behind the camera for three British films. In 1976, Bucksey first directed two episodes of the drama series Couples . It is about a marriage counselor who likes to rely on the support of her more experienced colleagues on her first job. The cases shown are based on real events. Further work for television followed.
In 1982 and 1983, Bucksey directed three episodes of the children's series Educating Marmalade about Marmalade Atkins, a girl so naughty that parents and social services want to shoot her into space. For this work he was nominated for a BAFTA TV award in the category “Best Children's Program” . From 1987 to 1989 Bucksey worked for the crime series Miami Vice with Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas , which was also popular in Germany in the 1980s, as the police team "Sonny" Crockett and "Rico" Tubs. Numerous directing work for series and television films followed.
Bucksey directed the three-hour drama September, based on the novel by Rosamunde Pilcher , which was released in 1996 . The film is set in the Scottish highlands, where a privileged aristocratic family gives a party for the beautiful Pandora, played by Jacqueline Bisset , who hastily left her hometown under mysterious circumstances twenty years ago. Other leading roles are Mariel Hemingway , Edward Fox and Michael York . From 2005 to 2008 Bucksey directed seven episodes of the world-famous crime series Navy CIS , and from 2009 to 2012 four episodes of the crime drama television series Breaking Bad with Bryan Cranston in the lead role of lung cancer sufferer Walter White . In the USA this series is one of the most popular newly produced series. The internet was used more intensively in their marketing. Person of Interest was another crime series in which Bucksey was involved in 2011, as well as the drama series Revenge , in which he directed five episodes. The series focuses on the fate of Emily Thorne, played by Emily VanCamp , who is actually Amanda Clarke, and follows the vengeance of the young woman who has returned to the Hamptons to seek retaliation.
Bucksey worked for Fargo , a crime series based on the film of the same name by Ethan and Joel Coen , in 2014. The action takes place in Kansas City , Missouri in the 1950s . He was awarded an Emmy for directing the episode Buridan's Ass . In 2015/2016, Bucksey was the producer of twelve episodes of the television series Ray Donovan and ten episodes of the series Masters of Sex , which tells the story of sex researchers William Howell Masters and Virginia E. Johnson .
For the US television series The Affair , in which scenes are presented or told in parallel, once from a male and once from a female point of view, Bucksey staged five episodes in the period 2018/2019. Another work by the director is the American anthology series Briarpatch based on a novel by Ross Thomas , of which he directed two episodes in 2020. Thomas' novel of the same name won the Edgar Allan Poe Award . Allegra Dill, played by Rosario Dawson , returns to her hometown on the Texas-Mexico border to investigate who murdered her sister in the corruption-ridden town.
Private
From 1973 to 1987 Bucksey was married to the film producer Verity Lambert. The couple divorced. He then married Sally, with whom he has been married for 26 years and has two children together.
