David J. O'Connell

David Joseph O'Connell (born December 25, 1868 in New York City , † December 29, 1930 ibid) was an American politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives between 1919 and 1921 and between 1923 and 1930 .

Career

David Joseph O'Connell was born and raised in New York City about three years after the end of the Civil War . During this time he attended public schools. O'Connell worked in the newspaper business and later as a sales manager for Funk & Wagnalls . He was the founder and first secretary of the 28th Ward Board of Trade and the Allied Board of Trade in Brooklyn . He was also President of the Booksellers' League of New York . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In 1920 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco .

In the 1918 congressional election for the 66th Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Oscar W. Swift on March 4, 1919 . In 1920 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1921 Congress of. He then ran for the 68th Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Andrew Petersen on March 4, 1923 . O'Connell was re-elected three times in a row. He died in New York City on December 29, 1930 during his final tenure and was then buried in St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village .
