German pétanque championships took place for the first time in 1977 in Bad Godesberg. The original plan was for the winner to go to Luxembourg for the World Pétanque Championship . After the championship, however, they agreed on a common team for the world championship. Since then, German teams have taken part in world championships as teams of the German Pétanque Association.

The German Pétanque Association was only founded in 1984 and has been organizing the German championships ever since. 13 different competitions will be held. See also

Competitions

The ball sport of pétanque can be played by athletes of different ages in different forms of competition.

Players (with a DPV license) are allowed to compete in the German Seniors Championships. Cadets and Juniors are allowed to start if age-appropriate care is ensured by the regional associations. Minimes are not allowed to start.

Even athletes who do not have German citizenship can take part in the German championships if they have a DPV license (and none from another national pétanque association).

Age groups

There are also championships for different age groups. The year of birth applies to the change to the next group.

  • Minimes (11 years and younger)
  • Cadets (12-14 years)
  • Juniors (15-17 years)
  • Espoirs (18-22 years)
  • 55+ (older than 55 years)

For all age groups except those 55+, younger players are generally allowed to participate. Special regulations apply to individual competitions.

All age groups except 55+ are international names. The international or French term veteran was discarded for Germany after a discussion, since in the opinion of many discussants the term has a different meaning in Germany than, for example, in France. The age groups of the veteran age group vary in the different countries in which special championships are held.

Forms of competition

Basically, a distinction is made between competitions in formations , team competitions and precision shooting .

Successful athletes

From 1977 to 2016, 202 different athletes became German pétanque champions (formations or precision shooting) among the senior citizens. By May 2008, 86 different athletes had become German pétanque champions (formations and precision shooting) at the youth championships.

Klaus Mohr is the most successful with 13 championships. (As of October / 2016)

Only three athletes achieved victories in both the youth championships and the senior championships: Sascha Koch, Sascha von Pleß and Muriel Hess. The championships in the team championships were not taken into account in this evaluation. (As of May / 2008)

Formations

In pétanque the following formations are played:

  • Triplette (team of three)
  • Doublette (team of two)
  • Tête à tête (single)
  • Doublette Mixte (A woman and a man)
  • Team (5 players and one player)

(see also pétanque technique and tactics )

In the case of German championships in formations, unlike world and European championships and team competitions, no players may be replaced.

Participants, qualifications, mode

128 teams each take part in the DM in Triplette, Doublette, Tête á tête and Doublette mixte, 64 teams take part in the DM women and DM 55+.

All young people with a DPV license can participate in the German youth championships .

The teams qualify at events organized by the regional professional associations . The members of the teams must have a license (player pass) from the German Pétanque Association. Basically, the players have to qualify in their national association. However, players from different national associations can come together to form a formation. You then have to play in one of the national associations of which the team members are members. If two members belong to a national association in a triplet, they must play in this game. Even athletes who do not have German citizenship can take part in the German championships if they have a DPV license (and none from another national pétanque association).

The number of teams that a regional association can send depends half on their size and the success of the respective regional association at the last DM.

In the first DM round, a poule is played first, then knockout rounds follow. The teams eliminated in the poule can take part in the B championship (French: Consolante; consolation round).

The championships take place at different locations and on different dates. At times championships were merged. The DM Tête à tête and precision shooting take place at the same time and in the same place. The 55+ and youth championships will take place in parallel in 2007. Changes to the current calendar can only be made with two years' notice.

Senior Masters

Athletes aged 18 and over can participate in the German championships for seniors without restrictions. Juniors and cadets can take part if age-appropriate care is guaranteed by their national association.

With the exception of the DM Women and Doublette mixed, women, men and mixed teams can take part in all competitions.

The Mixte championships have been held in Germany in the formation doublette since 1996.

The women's championships have been in the Doublette formation since 2003 and in the Triplette formation since 2006.

Successful athletes

Sascha Löh is the only pétanque athlete to win 3 titles in a row in one year: German champion in triplet, doublet and tête à tête in 2000.

Klaus Mohr was the only pétanque athlete to win eight German senior championships (formations) (as of the end of 2008).

Only one athlete could win 4 different titles: Volker Jacobs won in the triplet, doublette, tête à tête and doublette mixte.

The key date for belonging to an age group is December 31. In mixed-age teams, the oldest player determines who belongs to the age group. Triplets are played. The game mode depends on the number of participants.

Successful athletes

At the age of 8, Anna Nguyen is the youngest German champion in the history of the German Petanque Association.

Daniel Sester, Lukas Hirte, Nico Schmider, Julien Gasc, Sascha von Pless and Michael Ditterich won the most youth championships with 3 titles each. Julien Gasc has so far been the only youth champion to win all three titles.

Country Cup

The German Pétanque Country Cup is a competition for teams selected by the national associations.

The German Youth Country Cup has been called Youth Country Masters since 2002 .

"One team from each regional association is eligible to participate. A team consists of five triplets":

  • Seniors1
  • Seniors2
  • Espoirs
  • Women
  • youth

The Espoirs team was first introduced in 2007, with 3 senior teams starting in 2006.

“For each triplet, 4 players can - but do not have to - be entered. The team boss / coach / trainer can assign the 4th player according to change international practice during the game, after a recording and only once during a game. "

There are different game systems depending on the number of teams.

The competition takes place over two days on a set weekend in a pétanque hall. see calendar of DPV events

Country Cup mode

With up to 8 participating teams, each team plays against each other. If there are more than 8 teams, the game is played in two groups. “In group 'A', the teams that finished in places 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 in the previous year play teams from places 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 in group 'B' of the previous year specifies the starting order for the game round schedule in the two preliminary round groups. "
